Innova Taxi Booking in Delhi, Innova Crysta Cab Booking

If you are planning a trip to Kasol from Delhi, the first question that comes to mind is how far is Kasol from Delhi and how long will it take to reach. I have personally driven this route multiple times with our Innova cab and can tell you everything you need to know before you book your trip.

How Far is Kasol from Delhi?

The Delhi to Kasol distance by road is approximately 520 kilometers. The journey takes around 12 to 14 hours depending on traffic, road conditions, and the season you are traveling in.

If you start from central Delhi (Connaught Place or ISBT Kashmiri Gate), you will pass through Chandigarh, Bilaspur, Mandi, and Bhuntar before reaching Kasol. The last 30 kilometers from Bhuntar to Kasol are mountain roads, so they take more time than you might expect.

Delhi to Kasol Route by Road

The most commonly used and recommended route is via NH44 and NH3. Here is the full breakdown:

Delhi to Chandigarh (approximately 250 km, 4 hours)
This is the smoothest part of the entire journey. NH44 is a well-maintained highway and you can cover this stretch comfortably. Light traffic before 7 AM makes early morning the best time to cross this section.

Chandigarh to Bilaspur (approximately 90 km, 2 hours)
After Chandigarh, the roads begin to narrow slightly and you start entering the lower Himalayan foothills. This stretch is scenic and relatively easy to drive.

Bilaspur to Mandi (approximately 60 km, 1.5 hours)
You will pass alongside the Gobind Sagar Lake on this stretch. The views are beautiful and worth a short stop for photos. Road quality is decent but has some curves.

Mandi to Bhuntar (approximately 60 km, 1.5 hours)
Mandi is a major town and a good place to stop for lunch or fuel. After Mandi, the terrain becomes more hilly and the road follows the Beas River.

Bhuntar to Kasol (approximately 30 km, 1 hour)
This is the mountain section. The road is narrow in places, has sharp turns, and moves slowly. Our drivers are experienced on this stretch but expect this section to take at least 45 minutes to 1 hour.

Total: Approximately 520 km, 12 to 14 hours

Best Time to Start the Journey from Delhi

From our experience driving hundreds of passengers on this route, the best time to depart from Delhi is between 4 AM and 5 AM. Here is why:

  • You avoid Delhi morning traffic completely
  • You cross Chandigarh before peak hours
  • You reach Mandi in daylight which is much safer on mountain roads
  • You arrive in Kasol by evening with time to settle in

We never recommend driving the Bhuntar to Kasol mountain section in complete darkness if it can be avoided. Evening arrival is always better than a midnight one on this route.

Road Conditions on Delhi to Kasol Route

Delhi to Chandigarh: Excellent. Four lane highway, well lit, petrol pumps every 30 to 40 km.

Chandigarh to Mandi: Good to moderate. Two lane roads, some construction patches, manageable for any experienced driver.

Mandi to Bhuntar: Moderate. Road follows the river, some narrow patches, safe with a careful driver.

Bhuntar to Kasol: Mountain road. Narrow, winding, some potholes. Not suitable for large buses or inexperienced drivers. An Innova Crysta handles this section very well.

Monsoon Warning: During July and August, landslides are common on the Mandi to Kasol stretch. We always advise our passengers to check road conditions before departure during this season. In 2024, the Kullu Manali highway had multiple closures in August that affected Kasol-bound travelers significantly.

Places to Stop En Route

Chandigarh

A great breakfast stop. You are about 4 hours into the drive and Chandigarh has good dhabas and cafes near the highway. Rock Garden is nearby if you have extra time.

Gobind Sagar Lake near Bilaspur

A quick photo stop. The reservoir view is stunning and only adds 10 minutes to your journey.

Mandi

The best lunch stop on this route. Mandi has local dhabas serving pahadi food, ancient Shiv temples if you want to visit, and it is a good place to refuel the vehicle. We always stop here on our Delhi to Kasol trips.

Bhuntar

This is your last stop before Kasol. Withdraw cash here as ATMs in Kasol are limited and sometimes out of cash. There is a small airport at Bhuntar as well.

Delhi to Kasol by Other Modes of Transport

By Bus

HRTC Volvo buses run from ISBT Kashmiri Gate to Bhuntar and some go up to Kasol. Journey time is 14 to 16 hours. Fare ranges from Rs 900 to Rs 1,500. The downside is fixed timings, no flexibility for stops, and you still need a local vehicle from Bhuntar if the bus does not go all the way.

By Train

There is no direct train to Kasol. The closest railway station is Una or Chandigarh. From there you need to hire a local cab which adds both cost and travel time.

By Cab (Recommended)

Door to door service, comfortable for groups, flexible stop timings, and experienced drivers who know the mountain route. For a group of 4 or more people, a cab is almost always the most practical and cost effective option.

Best Time to Visit Kasol

March to June: The most popular season. Weather is pleasant, all roads are fully open, and Kasol is lively with tourists and trekkers.

October to November: Post monsoon season. Crowds thin out, air is crisp, and the scenery is at its best after the rains. One of our most booked periods for this route.

December to February: Cold and sometimes snowy. Kasol itself rarely gets heavy snow but temperatures can drop below zero at night. Roads are generally open but check conditions before traveling.

July to August (Avoid if Possible): Landslides are common on the Kullu and Mandi highway sections. We have seen trips cancelled or delayed by 6 to 8 hours due to road blockages during this period. If you must travel in monsoon, always check Himachal Pradesh road updates on the HRTC or state government website before departure.

Important Tips Before You Travel

Carry Cash from Delhi

ATMs in Kasol run out of cash frequently, especially on long weekends. Withdraw enough from Delhi or at the latest from Bhuntar.

Book Your Cab in Advance

Kasol trips spike on long weekends and school holidays. During April and May, we sometimes get fully booked 7 to 10 days in advance. Early booking gets you better rates and your preferred vehicle type.

Check Rohtang Permit if Extending Your Trip

If you plan to go beyond Kasol toward Manali or Kheerganga, check whether you need a Rohtang Pass permit. Our team can guide you on this at the time of booking.

Inform Your Driver About Your Return Plan

If you want a round trip cab, confirm the return date with your driver at the start. This avoids any confusion on the return journey and sometimes gets you a better package rate.
