I have handled dozens of Delhi to Katra bookings over the years, mostly for families heading to Vaishno Devi. This route is one of our most requested outstation trips, so I am sharing everything I tell customers on the phone, in one place.
Delhi to Katra Distance
The road distance from Delhi to Katra is approximately 630 to 650 km, depending on the exact route your driver takes. By car, this translates to roughly 11 to 13 hours of driving, including short breaks.
Most of our drivers take NH44, since it is the shortest and best maintained option. The route runs through Panipat, Karnal, Ambala, Jalandhar, and Jammu before reaching Katra.
| Route | Distance | Approx. Time |
|---|---|---|
| Delhi to Katra via NH44 | 630-650 km | 11-13 hours |
| Delhi to Katra via NH-352 | 670-680 km | 12-14 hours |
I usually recommend NH44 unless there is a specific reason to take the longer route, like avoiding construction near a particular stretch.
Best Time to Travel by Road
Winter mornings on NH44 can get foggy, especially near Karnal and Ambala. If you are traveling between December and February, I suggest starting a little later in the morning once visibility improves.
Monsoon months, from June to September, bring occasional waterlogging near Jammu. Most pilgrims travel between March and June, or September to November, when weather and road conditions are both favorable for the Vaishno Devi yatra.
Innova Taxi Fare for Delhi to Katra
Our Innova fare for this route depends on whether you book one-way or round trip. Round trip works out cheaper per kilometer since the driver does not return empty.
The fare includes driver allowance, toll charges, and parking at major stops. It does not include the driver’s overnight stay charge if you plan a halt, which is a small, fixed amount.
If you are traveling as a family of 5 or 6, the per-person cost of an Innova often comes out lower than train tickets, once you count baggage handling and the door-to-door convenience. I always tell customers to do this math themselves before comparing prices online.
Halts and Rest Stops Along the Way
Karnal and Ambala are good stops for breakfast or lunch, with clean highway dhabas and fuel stations. Most of our drivers stop for a longer break near Jammu, especially if the trip started early morning from Delhi.
If your group prefers not to drive through the night, an overnight halt in Jammu works well. You can restart early the next morning and reach Katra in about 2 hours.
Why Choose Innova for This Route
The Innova has enough boot space for the extra luggage most yatra travelers carry, including prasad, warm clothes, and bags for a multi-day trip. The higher seating position also helps on the long uphill stretch near the end of the journey.
For families or groups of 6 to 7, the Innova keeps everyone in one vehicle instead of splitting into two cars. Over an 11 to 13 hour journey, that comfort matters more than people expect before they book.
How to Book
You can book directly through our Delhi to Katra taxi page, call us, or send a WhatsApp message with your travel date and group size. We confirm the driver and vehicle details before the day of travel, so there are no surprises at pickup.
